Seed Technology Information Sessions

23-Feb-2012

Retailers of AusWest Seeds should be better equipped ahead of this sowing season.

AusWest Seeds held four days of information sessions for independent and large buying groups to learn about the latest information on seed technology, varieties and trial results.

AusWest Seeds Territory Business Manager for Southern NSW Adrian Keith said the Seed Technology Updates seminars covered topics from herbicide tolerance on pastures, cereals and brassicas, duel purpose varieties, sowing seed treatments and perennial grass species.
“We are providing not just information on the seeds but how to make the most of them,” Mr Keith said.
Mr Keith said it was important for the retailers to receive up-to-date information ahead of this year’s sowing season.
“The biggest thing is going into the main sowing season and being equipped with the most up-to-date information and enough technical information that [retailers] can make informed recommendations to their clients and to improve their [clients’] farming practices,” Mr Keith said.

As part of the Seed Technology Updates retailers attended separate sessions to allow for open discussion without jeopardising client confidentiality.
Mr Keith said the information was delivered through a range of different genres.
“We were not just focussing on cereal seeds. We are providing a complete package of information [by] providing access to speakers who [retailers] may not see for over 12 months,” he said.

Special presenters included Dr Glenn Judson, an Animal Nutrition and Production Specialist for Agricom, based in New Zealand and Peter Matthews, Technical Specialist for Cereals with the Department of Primary Industries in Orange.
